General Guidelines when choosing
Management Consultants / Facilitators
Below are some general
guidelines when searching for any training & consultancy
programmes, or before attending any seminars/ workshops.
Please take note that these info's are based solely on
fmBRUNEI
own guidelines, both when selecting Consultants, as well
as when preparing for any of our own training
programmes:

|
1 |
Basic skills
trainings such as Basic Customer Service Course,
Introduction to Marketing, How to Sell Your
Products, etc |
For these basic
trainings, the Consultant concerned need not
have to hold very high academic qualifications
although it will be good if he/she has.
Professional certificates in the area of
consultancy backed by at least 10 years of
working experiences in that area would be
sufficient. |
|
2 |
Supervisory and
Management Trainings |
For higher level
trainings, the Consultant concerned should hold
a minimum Degree qualification in the area of
consultancy (MBA and PhD / Doctorate in any
Management subject is an added advantage but not
a must), backed by extensive working experiences
(10 years and above) in that area. For
Management Consultants holding non-management
qualifications (e.g.: Degree in Construction,
MBA in Engineering, PhD in Alternative Medicine,
etc.), only their experiences should be taken
into account for consideration to facilitate the
course and not their qualifications as it's
irrelevant to Management trainings.

|
3 |
Neuro Linguistic
Programming (NLP) Trainings |
For all trainings
using NLP technique, the Consultant concerned
must be a NLP certified Trainer/ Consultant.
Even if the Consultant has attended several NLP
technique trainings, it does not make him/her
qualified to teach or facilitate any training
programme using the NLP technique. Higher
academic qualifications is also a must for NLP
Facilitators (at least Degree and above) with
facilitating experiences of at least 12 years
and above. |

Indoor
Team-Building Course |
(same as No. 2) |
|
5 |
Outdoor
Team-Building (physical) |
Outdoor
Team-Building programmes usually consists of
just physical trainings & activities. If this is
the case, then the Facilitators or Trainers will
need to be qualified in physical/outdoor
trainings with all the safety knowledge as these
trainings will be done outdoors (jungles,
rivers, hills, etc). Depending on the level of
the participants, very high academic
qualification is not a must. |
|
6 |
Outdoor
Team-Building (physical with in-door Management
activities) |
(same as No. 2 for
Management activities/games, and No. 5 for
outdoor physical activities/games. Different
Facilitators/Trainers may be required) |
|
7 |
- ISO Certification
Training & Consultancy
- Other Quality
Management Programmes |
For all Quality
related trainings and consultancies, the
Consultants concerned must be registered
certified auditors, with extensive knowledge and
hands-on experiences within this field.
Academically, these Consultants should also hold
higher level qualifications (Degree and above).

Public Seminars /
Talks |
Public seminars or
talks are meant for the general publics on
specific or general topics, more for knowledge
enhancement rather than for the holistic
development of each individuals. Participants
from all level of industries and backgrounds can
attend these trainings as only general issues
are covered during public seminars and talks. |
|
9 |
Customised Training
& Consultancy |
Customised
trainings are 'tailored-made' trainings for each
and every organisation accordingly. Professional
consultation will usually come first in order to
rectify any problems, shortcomings or
'loop-holes' within the organisation that needs
to be corrected or improved upon, followed by
proposals on the required training programmes,
in which has also been carefully designed or
amended specifically for the organisation
concerned. However, organisations doesn't
necessarily need to have problems in order to
have any trainings done. Trainings should be
'seen' by organisations as an investment and
opportunity for them to enhance their current
skills and Management techniques, and also to
adopt new ones in order for them to strive
better and be ahead of others. |
|
*Important notes to
consider: |
| 1)
Local support and services must be provided and
available when selecting any training &
development programmes in order to ensure its
continuous effectiveness. Usually, a 'one-off'
or 'one-time' trainings will not make much
difference in the long run, especially when it
comes to larger scale organisations. |
| 2)
Except for general/ public seminars, the number
of participants in every professional
development trainings should not exceed 20-30
participants per training session (depending on
the objective and contents of the programme) as
to ensure its effectiveness and 'impact' to each
and every participant. This way, participants
can also be monitored on individual basis for
future development programmes. |
| 3)
For any skilled related trainings, it is very
important that the Consultant/ Facilitator has
enough experiences in the area of consultancy
and training that he/ she is doing (hands-on
experiences) and not just based on his/ her
academic qualifications which may not be
relevant to the course at all. |
